How LVADs Work

چکیده

Left ventricular assist devices have become an established treatment for patients with advanced heart failure, as a bridge to transplantation or recovery, or as a long-term option for those who are not candidates for cardiac transplantation (destination therapy). Although studies have clearly shown that LVADs can signifi cantly improve quality of life for patients, there are substantial risks associated with these devices. Careful patient selection for LVAD implantation may help to prevent signifi cant potential risks and complications, as well as to improve the effi cacy of these procedures.
